I thought Sunday night would be packed since the campground was fully booked. I was happy to find the sites were very spread out so it didn't feel crowded at all! We stayed at site 57 the first night and site 55 the next night.
Recreation
The area surrounding Lake Tahoe offers plenty of biking opportunities. There aren’t too many trails around Eldorado specifically, but you can find some reviews and information on The Mountain Project . We recommend the El Dorado trail , a 30+ mile singletrack along an old historic railroad. These nearby destinations add even more depth to your Ice House Reservoir experience, offering a variety of outdoor activities and beautiful landscapes to explore.
Ice House Resort Campground
The water was calm and there was very few people on the water. Later that day a thunder storm rolled in and it rained for about 2 hours so we drove to the nearby Ice House Resort and played pool until the sun came out. Union Valley Reservoir seems to be the only place that allows kiteboarding and windsurfing, but you should ask a ranger, if this isn’t the destination you had in mind! There are a handful of campgrounds, including Wench Creek, Yellowjacket, and Sunset, that you can stay at if you’re planning on coming here to kiteboard/windsurf. There are some pretty cool trails , like the Horse Canyon trail, the Emigrant Lake trail, and the Fleming trail.

Sly Park Recreation Area is on the edge of the Eldorado National Forest, an hour's drive northeast of Sacramento. Ice House Campground is located next to the boat launch ramp on the northwest shore of Ice House Reservoir in the Crystal Basin area of Eldorado National Forest. The campground is popular with anglers, boaters, cyclists, and families. Reach the campground by traveling 11 miles on Ice House Road off Highway 50 and then 1½ miles on Forest Road 32. Directly north of Emerald Bay, D.L. Bliss State Park offers over 160 similar spots to spend the night.
The campground accommodates trailers and motor homes, though no hook-ups are available. Many of the campsites are universally accessible, as are the shower and restroom facilities. The Peninsula Campground is one of three campgrounds surrounding the Folsom Lake reservoir. It features 100 family-friendly campsites in a remote setting.
