I bought this at the same time as I bought my 42 inch HDTV. I was confused by some of the other products and this seemed fairly straightforward to set up and use and it absolutely is! I think it was a good start for me until I have a little more experience with home theaters. I think the speaker wires are a little on the short side if you really want to spread them out. I wanted to run the TV sound through this as well but the Optical cable needed is not included although they are fairly cheap.

Also, for reference, I'm fairly sure the bottom ring of r202 was gold, the in the center is a dark black ring, could have been black or another color that burned to black. Above that is a burned up ring, one that seems to have been white to begin with as a small area of it facing the transistor is still white. And the top ring is mottled so it's really hard to make a guess of it's original color... Just pulled the bad board, looks like resistor 202, next to a small cap and a transistor on a small heat sink, I'll try to figure out what value it is, it's toasted, but not completely burned off... WEll I determined that the resistor, being just part of a noise cancelling circuit, can be removed and the device will power on. The cause of the burned up resistor though, is a blown IC in the amplifier board of the device... A guy there even drew a diagram of the switching power supply on a bottom view of the PCB for everyone to check out... Just noticed a little interesting bit of information, the psb from the rt2870 is labled rt2770, another model of system, perhaps this may be of some help. I looked all over the amber power supply board but couldn't seem to find one with that designation... It could have better bass and louder sound, but it was purchased on a budget so it is good for fort for the price. If u want a decent low end surround sound sys then that's exactly what this is but don't expect to impress the neighbors.

Much better then the original speakers on my TV. So for the price and the sound quality I do recommend this product. The RCA DVD Surround Sound system was a good basic system for the price. Set-up was easy and the sound is good for a small room. The biggest complaint I had was that the speaker wires are permanently attached to the speakers, so if the wires aren't long enough, extra speaker wire needed to be spliced into the lines.
But it works fine and like I said you get what you pay for. Delivery times may vary, especially during peak periods. My DPL Samsung TV speaker went out and I needed speakers, just to fix the motherboard that would fix the problem was going to cost me around $550.00 plus labor. So I went to Best Buy just to see what where the options and to find this product for on sale for $99.00 it was what I needed. I installed the unit and speakers within 30 minutes and it sounds GREAT.

Classy little unit that puts out a great sound. The hardest part of the whole set-up was the placement of the speakers for the best coverage. I couldn't believe the fullness it pumps out. Bought one and had to return due to a high pitched buzz/humming through all of the speakers every time the DVD drive spun up. Took a chance on a straight swap and the second one behaved itself and performs at least as well or better than a unit priced at that amount should. A bit concerned about the OPEN AIR nature of the DVD drive components as far as dust is concerned.
This is a great system for the price I got on Deal of the Day.. Speakers are small but sound good, DVD is up-converting and works well, sub-woofer sounds good. Only issue is that the lowest sound volume is a bit loud on factory settings. By reducing the levels of the speakers in the setup menu to their lowest level the low volume is fine and system volume still gives plenty of loudness.
Doesn't have internet capability like the previous DVD HOME THEATER i bought from best buy. Plays OK, speaker wire isn't plug and play but have to strip the wires to insert into DVD. Speakers themselves are pre wired, can't unplug them. Mainly doesn't have the ability to access netflix so we put it in the bedroom to just play DVD's.
Easy set up, good instructions, works as advertised. I've never set up a system like this before, so I wasn't sure what to expect, but the instructions were clear and easy to follow. My living room is average sized and after about 30 minutes of tweaking it sounds good to me. Maybe I should classify it as one step above trash. The RCA manuals I've seen do not include schematics.
